Sunday Smorgasbord

Happy Sunday! Can you believe that July is tomorrow?! I am linking up with Michelle from one of my FAVORITE blogs, Fabulous in First.
This week I enjoyed lunch with my fabulous team! I am so thankful everyday for the people I get to call teammates. I have been blessed throughout my entire career with great teams. It was so nice to sit down and chat and relax without having to discuss meeting, scores, or standards.

I have been reading away. As I mentioned in the first post, moving to third grade introduced me to a new world of children's literature. Throughout my career in first, I would collect picture books, and we still use many in third. Now my collection of chapter books is quickly growing. I brought home a Scholastic Box filled with books I wanted to read this summer. Well, I have read two...I need to get moving. This was the week I decided I better dive into the box. I began with the first anchor text of our new Language Arts series.
I can't wait to get my hands on the new language arts series. I enjoyed this text of short stories.

I also read The Lemonade War, by Jaqueline Davies. I just discovered that this is a series, so I am going to have to check out the others.
I loved this book! It was quite interesting as you read saw the events through the eyes of the brother and the sister. This book will be used this year.

I have also discovered a couple of cool photo apps.
A Beautiful Mess allows you to add texts and doodles to your photos. LOVE!

I also just downloaded Pip Camera. It allows you to creatively frame your images. Can't wait to try it out!

I found my next "must have" classroom item. How COOL is this?!

Finally, I'm looking forward to vacation!

Welcome to Now Starring in Third!

I am so excited to be back blogging after a YEAR hiatus!! I am the author of Langston's Learners, a first grade blog I managed for several years. In 2012, I moved to third grade. I had good INTENTIONS of continuing blogging last year, but it took a back seat as I adjusted to my new role. So to all my families last year, I apologize!
It was a fantastic year. I enjoyed teaching the children I had two years earlier. I've been asked several times which grade level I prefer. I don't really have an answer. I love both grade levels, but for different reasons. I truly enjoyed being exposed to a whole new world of children's literature in third grade. My passion is literacy, which is why I teach Language Arts. I think the favorite part of our day was interactive read aloud. We loved every book, but here were two of my favorites that we read.
Last year was a first for third grade as well. We departmentalized! Our team works closely together to maximize student learning and we are continuing to strengthen our framework. Last year was very successful and we look forward to a new year.

This blog will feature every block, so you will get to see what is going on in throughout the grade level. I am looking forward to getting back into the world of blogging and I hope you will check in often.
